Comprehensive Vision Exams

By Chico Vision Care for eye care in Chico, CA, you can rest assured that your eyes are getting the care they deserve. Most of our patients visit us for the first time for a comprehensive vision exam. Read on to learn more about why these exams are important and what you can expect.

Comprehensive Vision Exams

Your Exam

Before beginning your eye exam, our optometrist will assess your medical history. Our eye doctor needs to know whether you have a family history of any particular type of eye condition. Conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes can have a serious effect on your vision.

We will also assess your visual acuity, which is the ability of your eyes to distinguish details of objects at a given distance. Our optometrist will also check your color vision, how well the muscles in your eyes work, how your depth perception is, do you have good peripheral vision, and how well your pupils respond to light.

Keratometry

Keratometry is a measurement of the anterior curve of the cornea. It is done with a machine called a keratometer. This measurement is very important in determining how contact lenses will fit your eyes.

Refraction

A refractive error can cause you to be nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism. A retinoscope is used to measure the focusing power of your eyes with a series of lenses. This is used to help determine your vision prescription.

Eye Health Evaluation

Our optometrist uses various techniques to evaluate your eye health. By dilating the eyes, the structures inside the eye can be viewed and evaluated. The pressure in your eye will also be checked during these types of vision exams.
